PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Sidlokwethu Project is a food security and nutrition initiative emerging as a component of the Promotion of Child Health and Development Programme. While the latter primarily focused on addressing malnutrition in children, the Sidlokwethu Project builds on these experiences to deliver enhanced nutrition, sustainable livelihoods, and economic strengthening.

This initiative aims to empower individuals with the interest and potential to produce healthy food for their families while increasing access to nutritious food within the broader community.

In addition to improving food security, the programme serves as an income-generation initiative. Participating households engage in food production not only for their own consumption but also for commercial purposes. As a result, families have the opportunity to generate income, contributing to economic upliftment.

OBJECTIVES

The specific objectives of the project are:

1.Increase the number of households that produce vegetables and eat nutritious food all the time.

2.Increase the number of sustainable income generation initiatives in food production sector annually

3.Offer comprehensive course on crop production training periodically to stakeholders.

IMPACT

Empowering 200 local farmers to improve food security and income generation, by supporting 50 farmers to produce nutritious food for their communities and another 50 to supply fresh produce to local supermarkets.
