Meet Hlengiwe from our CAAC

1. Your name, where you’re from and your time with CAAC?
My name is Hlengiwe Msomi from KwaNgcolosi. I have been on the CAAC Community Action & Advisory Committee for about 9years. I am founder of NPO, Future Stars Care Centre.

2. How does the work of CAAC benefit & impact the community?
The CAAC work is to represent the community at The Valley Trust . As we are from the community we understand the needs and the services rendered by TVT so we work mainly as a link between the two. We receive relevant information & discuss project opportunities with the community. We focus mainly on skills development with the aim of assisting community members to help themselves. The home facilitators from The Valley Trust are a very important link to the households. They make us aware of desperate families requiring food assistance, social worker intervention, supplies like school uniforms and blankets.

3. What does your role entail?
I am fortunate to have the platform of my NGO, Future Stars Care Centre, to assist further and connect partners I work with to specific community needs. TVT Home Facilitator Hlengiwe Ngcobo is the secretary at Future Stars which makes it easy to refer families. I provide guidance regarding community stakeholders. We have set up food distribution satellites, provided school uniforms, clothing, blankets and counselling, in conjunction with the Dept of Social Development and social workers in the Pinetown clinic.

My dream is to have a child care and community development centre. Literacy foundation is a focus area of mine. I provide Word Works teaching and training and help children develop language skills and concentration so that they are school ready. I also provide homework assistance

There is power in partnership and community empowerment is evident from the connection we have with TVT and other partners we represent.
